Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of characters who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group knows exactly where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the group access locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to travel to Timmony in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
